No. It's an independent student project, not owned, run, or endorsed by York University in any way.
Yes, completely free — no fees, no paid tiers.
Only to post a listing or message someone. Browsing the board to see what's available is open to anyone, signed in or not.
Drop and add (sometimes called add/drop) is the window near the start of each term when you can still change your schedule — dropping a course you no longer want and picking up one you do, usually without academic or financial penalty. Exact deadlines are set by York's registrar and vary by session, so check registrar.yorku.ca for the current dates.
The app only connects you with another student through messaging — it never touches your enrollment or York's systems. Once you've worked out the details, each of you makes the actual change yourselves in York's Registration and Enrolment Module (REM).
No. Other students only ever see a display name (which you can change any time) — your email is never shown to anyone else.
Post a "Needed" listing for it — this is exactly what to do if a section is closed, full, or the waitlist isn't moving. It'll sit grouped with that course so anyone who later posts a matching "Dropping" listing shows up right alongside you.
Yes — that's one of the most common uses. Post the section you have and what you're hoping to get, then message anyone posting the section you want to work out the trade.
REM's waitlist only moves automatically while a spot opens up within REM's own rules, and it can stall for weeks. York Drop & Add doesn't replace it — it's a way to find another student directly when the waitlist isn't moving, instead of just hoping a seat appears.
No. Anyone signed in with a valid YorkU email (@my.yorku.ca or @yorku.ca) can post or message, undergraduate or graduate.
Yes. Any listing you've posted has a Remove option right on its card, and your account screen has a "Delete my data" option that removes your display name, listings, and conversations.
The same email also contains a short sign-in code — type it into the code field on the sign-in screen instead of tapping the link. It's more reliable on phones, where switching to your mail app can break the link's handoff back to the browser.
Live. Once you open a conversation, replies from the other student appear immediately, with no refresh needed. If you're not looking at Messages when one arrives, a small red dot shows up next to it in the top bar.
Keele, Glendon, Markham, and Online. Terms shown are whatever students have actually posted for — there's no fixed list, it grows as people use it.
